Let's make it ours

The building at the center of Tahoe Park is getting a full transformation: neighbor-painted murals; colorful, welcoming bathrooms; a drought tolerant, pollinator-friendly garden; and a refurbished community meeting room - designed, built, and celebrated by the people who live here.

The Vision
What if the park building told the story of our community? Thanks to funding from Aggie Square Community Fund, and in collaboration with the City of Sacramento Youth Parks and Community Enrichment Division, that's exactly what's happening. Local artists, volunteer neighbors, and our kids' own artwork are coming together on one shared building.

Community Building Murals

​A professional artist, chosen through an open call, will lead the design and work directly with volunteer painters and local kids to cover the building in color and meaning. We will also be turning the bathrooms into works of art! And we will finish everything with a protective anti-graffiti coating.

Pollinator Garden

Drought-tolerant, pollinator friendly plantings along the east side of the building will create new habitat for bees, butterflies, and birds, right behind the building.

Community Meeting Room

The building's interior will get cleaned, painted, and furnished with tables, chairs, and storage - then opened up as a real, bookable gathering space for Tahoe Park neighbors.

One coordinating body, six working committees

Oversight

  • Makes final decisions & manages the budget
  • Tracks milestones across all committees
  • Includes a Parks Department liaison
Good fit if you: have organizing or nonprofit board experience and want the big-picture view.
Hands-On

Construction & Painting
  • Assesses the building & organizes prep work
  • Coordinates volunteer painting days
  • Applies the final protective coating
Good fit if you: have trades experience, or a knack for scheduling and event logistics.
Indoor Space

Community Room Committee
  • Organizes cleaning, painting & furnishing
  • Purchases tables, chairs & storage
  • Sets up the room booking system
Good fit if you: have an eye for interiors and enjoy getting a space guest-ready.
Design & Art

Design & Art Committee
  • Gathers community input on themes & imagery
  • Writes the artist RFP & runs selection
  • Owns the long-term maintenance plan
Good fit if you: have an artistic eye, curatorial instincts, or arts-admin experience.
Green Space

Garden Committee
  • Selects drought-tolerant pollinator species
  • Coordinates planter construction with Parks Dept.
  • Owns the ongoing care & maintenance plan
Good fit if you: already garden, or want to join our existing TPNA Garden Committee.
Outward-Facing

Outreach & Communications
  • Recruits volunteers all project long
  • Runs social media & progress documentation
  • Plans the grand reveal celebration
Good fit if you: love telling stories, taking photos, or connecting with press.
